Mid-Scotland and Fife MSP Dean Lockhart has strongly welcomed Chancellor Rishi Sunak’s decision to freeze duty on Scotch whisky in the UK budget.
Mr Lockhart says that the move from the UK Government will be a major boost for local distilleries such as Deanston and Glengoyne as they aim to recover from the impacts of the pandemic.
Dean also says that is it yet another example of a vote of confidence in the industry following a five-year suspension of tariffs being imposed on whisky exports to the USA being agreed in June.
Dean Lockhart MSP said:
“This is a major boost for the local whisky industry that has been delivered by Rishi Sunak.
“The UK Government’s Budget has ensured that distillers across the region will benefit from a freeze as they strive to recover from the pandemic.
‘’It is another welcome boost following the UK Government striking a deal to suspend tariffs on whisky exports to the USA earlier this year.
“I am sure Scotch whisky consumers across Mid-Scotland and Fife will also warmly welcome Rishi Sunak’s freeze as they drink their favourite drams.’’
