Last week, I had the chance to visit Stirling Fire Station to meet with Area Commander Roddy Keith to discuss operational coverage for the Stirling area.
There have been reports in the local press about fire cover in Stirling following claims the city’s second appliance had been “off the run” no fewer than 50 times this year.
I discussed these issues with Mr Keith who re-assured me that at no time has Stirling not had adequate fire service cover.
However, there is a widespread problem with crew availability and budget constraints that needs to be properly addressed by the service across Scotland as well as in Stirling.
I will be asking the Scottish Government in the chamber to re-assure the people of Stirling that staff shortages will not lead to lack of adequate fire cover
