Diagnostic waiting times for children with autism

Diagnostic waiting times for children with autism

I asked the Minister for Mental Health Maureen Watt MSP, what action the Scottish Government is taking to reduce diagnostic waiting times for children with autism.

This was in response to a constituent case which revealed that an 11 year old child in Fife has had to wait over a year and a half for an appointment with a specialist to diagnose autism.

NHS Fife confirmed to me that the reason for this delay was that it has failed to recruit any of the required doctors.

The Minister for Mental Health admitted to me in her response that mental health services remain fragile in Scotland and that the situation was not good enough.
