Mid-Scotland and Fife MSP Dean Lockhart has been chosen as the new Convener of the influential Net Zero, Energy and Transport Committee at Holyrood.

The committee's remit will be to scrutinise the role and actions of the Scottish Government on these crucial issues at a time when the eyes of the world will be on the UK, and Scotland in particular, when the United Nations Climate Change Conference of the Parties (COP26) is held in Glasgow on 31 October- 12 November 2021.

Dean Lockhart MSP said:

''This is a huge privilege and responsibility and I look forward to working with all colleagues across the committee to hold the Scottish Government to account as Scotland aims to meet it's climate change targets.

''The committee will devote it's time and energy into asking the difficult questions, seeking expert views and doing our best to ensure that we can deliver a successful green recovery whilst at the same time delivering practical solutions as we transition to a sustainable net zero by 2045.

''COP26 is a massive opportunity for the UK to take centre stage on one of the key global issues and I look forward to working with the UK and Scottish Governments to ensure that they deliver a successful conference.
