The latest figures released show that 3400 jobs across the Stirling area are being protected by the UK Government Job Retention Scheme.

Mid Scotland & Fife MSP, Dean Lockhart praised the continued invaluable support available and welcomed the announcement from the Chancellor, Rishi Sunak, that the scheme is to be further extended to the end of April next year.

The figures released cover the period to the end of October.

In Scotland the Job Retention Scheme operates alongside the self-employed income support scheme, business loans, increases to universal credit and almost £10 billion worth of Covid support to the Scottish Government. The scale of UK Treasury backed support is unprecedented.

Commenting, Dean Lockhart MSP said
“The UK Government’s job retention scheme continues to be a major success in protecting jobs and livelihoods right across the Stirling area

“At a time when employees needed it most, it was the UK Government who stepped in to help pay their wages. Rishi Sunak has guaranteed that support will continue until the end of April.

“Alongside many other schemes, the UK Government’s support for employees and businesses across Stirling during the Covid pandemic has been unprecedented.

“As businesses face further periods of uncertainty into the new year this scheme is essential to maintain people in their jobs ”
