MSP for Mid-Scotland and Fife Dean Lockhart today delivered the keynote speech at lunch celebrating the 100th anniversary of Latvia which was held in Glasgow.
The lunch was also attended by H.E. Baiba Braze the Latvian Ambassador to the United Kingdom and the Lord Provost of Glasgow.
Dean used his speech to stress the enduring economic, social and cultural ties which exist between Latvia and the United Kingdom and spoke of the growing opportunities for both countries in education, business and tourism as well as the assistance that Latvian businesses can give to Scottish businesses in trying to enter Russian speaking markets.
Trade between the United Kingdom and Latvia in 2017 was worth an estimated £1.4bn.

‘’It was an honour to be asked to speak at this lunch celebrating the centenary of Latvia.
‘’Trade and links between Latvia and Scotland date back centuries, and I was interested to learn more about these ancient ties in traditional industries such as wood processing, forestry and engineering.
‘’There are also great opportunities for our two countries to learn from each other moving forward in areas such as start-ups and emerging technology.’’
